Activities in Riparian Corridors

A. People should not remove mature vegetation, clear to bare soil, excavate or place fill material, or build structures within riparian (stream) corridors without first obtaining a permit (i.e., Riparian Exception).  These activities can accelerate erosion and stream sedimentation and, in some cases, destabilize hillsides if not properly sited and designed.

B. If you think you need to do any of these activities in a riparian corridor in response to winter storms, you should come to the County Planning Department and indicate that you would like to obtain a Riparian Exception and why.  The Department will give these requests priority attention and process them as quickly as possible.  If you have any questions about permitting requirements in riparian corridors, please contact Matt Johnston at 454-3201.
